CHARLES JANSCH,

a witness called and sworn on behalf of the People, was examined in chief by Mr. Walker, and testified as follows:

Q What is your name?

A Charles Jansch.

Q Were you at the Haymarket on the 4th of May?

A Yes.

Q When the bomb went off?

A T Yes.

Q Where were you standing?

A The first man in the second set of fours.

Q The front rank?

A Front rank.

Q Whose company?

A Lieut. Steele's.

Q Before the bomb went off, did you have anything shining in your hand, either pistol or club?

A No sir.

Q Revolver or club?

A No sir.

Q Who stood at your left?

A Officer Weinnecke.
