Direct examination by Mr. Ingham. Cross-examination by Mr. Foster. Testified on behalf of the Prosecution, People of the State of Illinois.

Found a bomb under his sidewalk at 351 Paulina that he gave to Captain Schaack. Testified on various topics (page numbers provide a partial guide): discovery of bombs or explosives out of doors (vol.K 635).

FREDERICK DREWS,

a witness called and sworn on behalf of the people, was examined in chief by Mr. Ingham, and testified as follows:

Q What is your name

A Fred Drew.

Q Where do you live?

A 351 North Paulina.

Q Did you ever see this before?

A I did.

Q Where did you see it first?

A Underneath the sidewalk.

Q The sidewalk where?

A At my place, 351 Paulina.

Q That is in the city is it?

A Yes sir.

Q How did you come to find it

A The street was paved, and I tore it up and repaired my sidewalk.

Q When did you find it?

A The 2nd of June.

Q Of this year?

A Yes sir.

Q What did you do with them?

A I gave them in charge of Captain Schaack, passed by and told Captain Schaack.

Q What did you do with the cans themselves?

A I took them and put them in the lot inside of my place.

Q Are they in the condition now they were at the time you found them?

A They were full.

Q Do you know full of what?

A Some kind of explosive stuff.

Q Full of something anyhow?

A Yes sir.

Q How many were there?

A Four of them.

Defendants' counsel move to exclude the testimony as incompetent and irrelevant and immaterial. The motion was denied by the court. To which ruling of the court defendants' counsel then and there excepted

Q Where do you live?

A 351 North Paulina.

Q Where is that?

A That is West of Ashland Avenue two blocks.

Q Do you know where the Haymarket is?

A Yes sir.

Q How far is it from there?

A About three miles.

Q Did you ever see these cans before you found them on the sidewalk?

A Never seen that kind.

Q You don't know who put them there?

A No sir.

Q Nor how long they had been there?

A No sir.

MR. GRINELL: Q How near Wicker Park is that? how far is 351 North Paulina street from Wicker Park?

A About a mile and a half.

THE COURT: What is the East and West street that strikes nearest to that point?

A Corner of Clarinda and Paulina, one block north of Chiacgo Avenue.

Redirect MR GRINELL: Q On the west side of the river or north side?

A On the west side.

Q What you call the west side of the town?

A Yes sir.
