Petition for change of venue, 1886 June 10.

Before a branch of the Criminal Court of Cook County, the defendants through their counsel petitioned the court for a change of venue due to the alleged prejudice of the Honorable John G. Rogers, the present presiding judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County. The Court ruled in support of the petition and venue was changed from Judge Rogers' court to that of the presiding Judge of the Criminal Court of Cook County at which point all of the defendants except Oscar Neebe were remanded into the custody of the Sheriff of Cook County.

PLEAS before a branch of the CRIMINAL COURT OF COOK COUNTY, in said County and State, at a term thereof begun and held at the Criminal Court House, in the City of Chicago, in said County, on the first Monday, (being the Seventh day) of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six and of the Independence of the United States the one hundred and tenth

PRESENT: HONORABLE John G. Rogers Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, and Ex Officio Judge of the Criminal Court of Cook County.

Julius S. Grinnell State's Attorney.

Seth F Hanchett Sheriff of Cook County.

And afterwards to wit: On the tenth day of June in the year last aforesaid, it being the term of Court last aforesaid, the following among other proceedings, were had and entered of Record in said Court, which said proceedings are in the words and figures following, to-wit:

The People of the State of Illinois
vs.
August Spies, Michael Schwab
Samuel Fielden, Adolph Fischer
George Engel Louis Lingg and
Oscar W. Neebe Impld. &c.

This day again come the said People by Julius S. Grinnell States Attorney and the said defendants

as well in their own proper persons as by their aforesaid Counsel also come, and this cause now comes on to be heard upon the Petition of said defendants for a change of Venue in this cause based upon the alleged prejudice of the Honorable John G. Rogers, the present presiding Judge of this Court, and the Court having examined the said petition on file in support thereof and hearing Counsel and being now fully advised in the promises, doth order that the Venue in this cause be and the same is hereby changed from the Honorable John G. Rogers, the present presiding Judge of this Branch of this Court.

Thereupon it is ordered, that the said defendants except Oscar W. Neebe be remanded into the custody of the Sheriff of Cook County.
